Job Description:
An opportunity has arisen for a highly experienced and able, Senior Network Engineer to join the support team within this globally renowned financial exchange.
The Network Engineering and Support team is accountable for the infrastructure design, configuration, maintenance and third line support of the companies networks.
Key Accountabilities
*Lead the development, implementation, and advise maintenance of network solutions to enable effective management of business and technical requirements.
*Liaise with offshore team to ensure standardisation is achieved where possible.
*Manage third party suppliers for operational effectiveness and during projects to influence design decisions and ensure maximum business benefit is obtained from the network infrastructure.
*Own the engineering vendor relationships.
*Ensure the provision of your expertise to all areas of the business in key projects, developments and implementations to ensure there are appropriate solutions and controls.
*Manage the design continuity, development & maintenance of the network.
*Network OS and hardware currency recommendations.
*Providing definitive architectural conformance documentation for circuits, hardware, logical design, and application deployment.
*Provision of General Design documentation with subsequent liaison with other team members and implementation team members.
*Network hardware platform functional requirements and evaluation.
*Network Lab development.
*Test plan development.
*Network instrumentation requirements.
*Third line support
*Mentor junior team members in network design
Essential Skills
*Three to five years of network design and implementation experience
*Good understanding of switching & routing technology and how to apply them in a service oriented enterprise environment.
*Ability to work in a self sufficient manner seeking guidance when real obstacles occur.
*Ability to operate at a tactical level daily, while not losing focus of strategic objectives.
*Good understanding of the dependence of the business on its IT processes and services.
*Good communication skills and the ability to work with others on both an ad hoc and project team basis, across organisational boundaries.
*Graduate and/or several years in depth experience of network design and operation.
*IP routing/multicast routing. Such as OSPF, BGP, MSDP & PIM.
*Internet and WAN protocols specifically global network technologies such as SDH, DWDM and BGP, MPLS.
Desirable Skills
*In depth knowledge of Juniper products and JUNOS
*Juniper knowledge to JNCIE level on MX, EX, M, and J series platforms.
*Knowledge of operating systems and their TCP/IP stacks
*Familiar with Force10 products and FTOS
*Familiar with Ciena DWDM product range
*Understanding of Data Centre Infrastructure, such as structured cabling, Power distribution, cooling.
*Application design and development relating to networks.
*Knowledge of common services, DNS/NTP etc.
*Use of network probes and monitors.
*Breadth and understanding of current and future network technology direction.
*Breadth and understanding of financial trading industry IT and business.
*MPLS VPN design and implementation.
*Understanding of physical transport technologies such as DWDM
*Knowledge of Futures/Options and Cash exchange trading business.
